(back to Reading the Remains)

One body in a nearby grave had remains of the last meal in its stomach. Scientists found numerous tiny fish bones, matted fish scales, rays' teeth, and fragments of rice. The remains of a beetle, Oryzaphilus, that prefers to live where rice is stored, were also unearthed. Also, human excrement found in another grave contained many rice husks and some fish bones. Shellfish, and seafood in general, were abundant.
