Thought Experiment (continued)

Now imagine you're watching from shore. See how the ball's path is curved? The ball moves forward (along with the boat) as it drops. Its path is longer, relative to you, than it is for the person on the mast. Naturally,the ball takes the same amount of time to fall whether you are watching it from the boat or from the shore, and thus is must drop at the same rate.
