While a-courting, the male stays deep within the bower, behind the maypole that serves as the central support of the structure, while the female stands at the bower's entrance. If she appears willing to mate, the male rushes toward her with wings spread while blurting out a provocative call. Who could resist such enticement? Certainly not female Vogelkops!
