APPRAISER: Where did these paintings come from?
GUEST: Well, from my dad's aunt in Chicago. She'd fill up the backseat of his car with different things from her home.
APPRAISER: Oh, my goodness.
GUEST: So he would go to visit, and every time he would get a woody load full of different things. Yeah, different items from her home.
APPRAISER: The painting on the left is signed Mabel Morman. We will never find Mabel Morman. It's a late-19th, early-20th century painting painted in the style of a high-style European, Italian painting. So it's a copy after something that Mabel saw. She either saw it in a book, or she saw it in a magazine, or she saw the original, but she copied it. It has nominal value. It's a pretty image, but the quality of the piece just isn't particularly high. It's perhaps between $300 and $500. On the other hand, this painting is by, arguably, one of the most important American impressionist artists, named Robert Reid. And Robert Reid studied in Boston, New York and Paris and was one of the founding members of "The Ten," which was an American impressionist group that bolted against traditional style painting. And this is a terrific example of his work, probably painted in Normandy. And you have everything that one looks for in a Robert Reid painting. You have a beautiful palette. You have a young girl. It's a terrific example of his work. The painting is also in very good condition. I think you may have had it restored or cleaned?
GUEST: Yeah, we had it cleaned and restored.
APPRAISER: I would value the Robert Reid painting at auction between $15,000 and $25,000.
GUEST: Okay.
APPRAISER: And for insurance, at $30,000.
GUEST: Okay.
APPRAISER: That was a good carload.
GUEST: Yes. (both laugh)
