GUEST: I brought my grandmother's engagement ring. I believe it was given to her in the 1920s. And she lived in New Jersey at the time. And I believe my grandfather bought it in New York.
APPRAISER: Well, let me tell you, you have a carat in the center, an old European cut. And I would actually date this around late 1920s. I would call this a transition between the Belle Époque period and the Art Deco period. And you can tell that because you have little milgrain here. But you also have some scrolling elements. And then you have this triangular beginning of the Deco period geometric style. It's a beautiful ring. It's mounted in platinum. Inside the ring it does have a maker's mark, but it's not one that I could find, but I believe it was made in the U.S. You have to be careful, the center stone is a little bit loose.
GUEST: A little bit loose, yeah.
APPRAISER: So you have to get that repaired if you plan to wear it.
GUEST: Yes, which I do because I love it.
APPRAISER: Do you have any idea of value?
GUEST: I don't, I mean I really don't. I mean I was thinking around $2,000? I don't know. $2,000.
APPRAISER: Well, let me tell you. If you were looking in a beautiful salon, you would find this for about $12,000.
GUEST: Really? $12,000? Oh, my gosh, wow.
APPRAISER: It's a beautiful piece.
GUEST: Thank you very much.
