GUEST: I think its Rookwood. It was my mother's. She got it when she was young. We've always had it in our house growing up. That's about all I know.

APPRAISER: Rookwood was a big pottery company from Cincinnati. And we see a lot of decorated pieces of Rookwood that were hand painted. But we also see a completely different facet, which is called production. The production pieces were designed by artists, but they were not hand painted, and they usually have a single color. We see their elephant figurines in other incarnations. They did book ends, they did paper weights, but, three elephants, suspending a bowl like this? We just don't see that. A lot of the prices for Rookwood pottery have gone down in the last ten years or so. This today is probably worth about a thousand dollars. Now, ten years ago, 15 years ago, would it have brought twice as much? Possibly. But, are there many pieces of Rookwood production out there that are worth anywhere close to $1,000? And the answer is no way.
