Update: October 17, 2016
In April 2016, following broadcast of this appraisal segment, the Frederic Remington watercolor was authenticated by the Buffalo Bill Center of the West. It was determined to be original illustration artwork for a short story entitled “General Crook in the Indian Country,” by Captain John G. Bourk, which was published in The Century Magazine in March 1891. Appraiser Colleene Fesko's $80,000 to $120,000 auction estimate of the painting is unchanged.
