GUEST: I brought in what my grandfather referred to as a patch box from the Civil War from a person in Kentucky that called him a Yankee. And he said this was made in Cincinnati, so it belonged to a Yankee, so he sent it home with him.

APPRAISER: And we know it's made in Cincinnati because on the top we have the mark of the Kittredge Company. And it's patented during the Civil War. And it's not for patches. This was actually used for cartridges.

GUEST: Oh.

APPRAISER: And one neat thing about the Kittredge box is the spring on the back. That allows the lid to pop back into place after you open it and close it.

GUEST: Oh yeah.

APPRAISER: Kittredge was a retailer here in Cincinnati, but they also held a couple of patents.

GUEST: Cool. Yeah, I had no idea there was a company in Cincinnati that made anything for the Civil War.

APPRAISER: There were several. Kittredge is probably one of the most famous. In today's market, it would retail for about $1,500.

GUEST: Oh, great! So that's really cool.

APPRAISER: It's one of the best Yankee cartridge boxes.

GUEST: That's right, it's definitely for the Yankees.
