Morse code is an international language for transmitting messages by wire or
radio using signals whose tapped duration is short (dots) or long (dashes). It
was invented in the mid-19th-century by the artist and inventor
Samuel F.B. Morse (1791-1872) for use on another of his inventions, the
telegraph. Dots and dashes are used to represent letters, numbers, and
punctuation, as such:
