Take a Tour of Mir
Kristall
(back to Tour)

Kristall, which is entered from the Transfer Node, was originally called Kvant-3 but rechristened Kristall (fire) because of the furnaces it once carried. This module is 45.2 feet long and 14.2 feet wide, and is mainly used for storage. There's also a greenhouse designed to cultivate plants in zero-g, and a treadmill for running.

An internal hatch at the far end of the main compartment leads to a spherical compartment based on the Soyuz orbital module. At the far end is the Shuttle Docking Module for docking with the Space Shuttle.
