Classroom Resources: Mysteries of the Nile
Egyptian Enterprises

Objective
To prepare a cultural exhibit on Egyptian history, culture, sites, monuments, and hieroglyphics using such media as posters, computer presentations, puppet shows, short plays, videotapes, museum exhibit panels, brochures, scale models, and audio tapes.

Resources

Procedure
  1. Tell students they are creative artists at the Egyptian Enterprises advertising agency. Their agency has just been hired by the Egyptian Ministry of Tourism to design a new informative exhibit for one of the council's offices that is frequently visited by tourists. The new materials are to inform the tourists about Egypt's history, culture, sites, monuments, and hieroglyphics. The Ministry of Tourism is giving Egyptian Enterprises free reign to design the exhibit as they please.

  2. Students can choose one of the following formats to convey the information, including posters, computer presentations, puppet shows, short plays, videotapes, museum exhibit panels, brochures, scale models, and audio tapes.

  3. Have students look at the Ministry of Tourism's Web site before they begin to create their subject-specific materials to see the kinds of information the ministry sees as important. Students can also use this site as a reference for their individual projects.

  4. Organize students into groups to develop the materials or let them choose to work on their own.

  5. Once they have completed their projects, have each group present its part of the exhibit to other class members.
