The 73rd annual Peabody Awards<\/a>\u00a0\u2014 which recognizes distinguished and meritorious public service by\u00a0radio and television stations,\u00a0networks, producing organizations, and individuals \u2014\u00a0were just announced, and three Independent Lens<\/em> films were among the winners. \u00a0The full list of winners of the prestigious awards are listed here<\/a>, but the Independent Lens<\/em> films honored with 2014 Peabodys are The House I Live In<\/em><\/a>, How to Survive a Plague<\/em><\/a>, and The Invisible War<\/em><\/a>. \u00a0Congratulations to filmmakers Eugene Jarecki, David France, and Kirby Dick, respectively.<\/p>\n

The House I Live In<\/em><\/p><\/div>\n

\u201cIndependent Lens<\/i>\u00a0is exceptionally proud to have supported these three incredible documentaries,\u201d said Lois Vossen,\u00a0Independent Lens<\/i>\u00a0Senior Series Producer. \u201cThe Peabody Awards speak to the excellent journalism and storytelling of these films and filmmaker teams, and to the extraordinarily important role that independent filmmakers play in getting at the ground truth of the most vital issues of our time.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Peabody Awards, presented by the\u00a0Henry W. Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication at the University of Georgia and named after philanthropist George Foster Peabody,\u00a0differ from most\u00a0other media awards because there are no categories, just merits of excellence, with all winners picked by a prestigious panel of experts.<\/p>\n
